Winter Warriors is back! Thanks for joining us in the fight for decent housing for all while fighting the cold at the same time. This is a chance to earn some Habitat gear and build thriving neighborhoods by helping to construct new homes with Habitat Chicago homebuyers. Winter Warrior Construction Volunteers work on our construction sites from January - March to help build affordable homes for families in Chicago.

Need help figuring out how to dress to stay warm while building? Check out our Winter Warriors Dressing guide!

    Description
    • Volunteers will work on construction-related tasks with the homebuyer and/or other volunteers.
    • HFHC provides all tools and materials for volunteers, as well as skilled on-site leaders who host a safety orientation,  give clear instructions on all tasks, and work to ensure that every volunteer has an outstanding experience.
    • We ask all volunteers to arrive to the build site by 7:45 AM so we can get started promptly at 8:00 AM with a Welcome and Safety Orientation. Any volunteers who are not present at the start of the Orientation may be asked to leave and reschedule for another volunteer day.
    • Volunteers will follow safety guidelines and report directly to the HFHC staff person at the site.
    • No prior construction experience is necessary.
    • Come prepared to work hard, get dirty, and make a lasting impact for a family and a community!
    Welcome/OrientationProgram Specific Training
    • Volunteers should wear close-toed shoes and long pants and avoid loose clothing and jewelry. We recommend layering for the weather as some tasks may be outside.
    • Any volunteers under 18 years of age must be no younger than 16 on the date of the build and must be accompanied by an adult in a ratio of no more than 4 youth for every adult.
    • Volunteers must provide their own transportation to and from the construction site. Habitat for Humanity Chicago actively encourages participants to take public transportation as an effective way to decrease our environmental impact and reduce the number of vehicles at construction sites.
